This international campaign founded by author and environmentalist Bill McKibben aims to inspire the world to tackle the climate crisis by acting together and quickly. According to scientists, 350 ppm (parts per million) of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is the safe upper limit for human survival on the planet. The campaign seeks to galvanize global action to reduce this number from the current 390 ppm of carbon dioxide to the desired number – 350 – which is the focus of the campaign.
On 24 October 2009, 350.org coordinated an 'International Day of Climate Action' with over 5,200 events being held in more than 180 countries united by the 350 goal.
- The campaign utilizes the power of Internet to catalyze on-ground action on climate change. The campaign website provides action opportunities, and also uploads photos and videos of actions taken by people.
- The campaign emphasizes on the scientific evidence of climate change, and calls for collective and urgent action to counter it.
